If the family is blended, these stories may have no meaning for some of the members. Instead, why not come up with a more creative way to spend time with the family? For the outdoor loving family, perhaps a small scavenger hunt would be entertaining. Mom and Dad will have a lot of fun coming up with the clues for their children, while the kids wait with anticipation to find out what the treasure will be. Older children can help younger children with the clues. This family activity is a good way to promote reading skills, and teamwork for siblings.
Some ideas for treasure could be a homemade coupon for a special night out at the kids’ favorite restaurant, or something as simple as a day without chores. The limits are the parents’ imaginations. This activity also gives the parents a chance to forget about their otherwise busy, and ongoing life to have fun.
Scavenger hunts can be time consuming. To make it more challenging, take the activity outside of the home and into the public. This gives children a chance to think outside of the box, and the parents some time away from the home worries!
